Onana's Errors Cost Manchester United in Draw Against Lyon

Manchester United's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Lyon ended in a 2–2 draw, with goalkeeper André Onana's errors playing a pivotal role in the outcome. Onana misjudged a free-kick from Thiago Almada, allowing it to bounce into the net, and later spilled a shot from Corentin Tolisso, leading to Rayan Cherki's stoppage-time equalizer .

Despite goals from Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee giving United the lead, Onana's mistakes overshadowed the team's efforts. Pre-match tensions were high due to a verbal exchange between Onana and former United midfielder Nemanja Matic, now at Lyon .

Manager Ruben Amorim refrained from criticizing Onana directly, emphasizing collective responsibility and ruling out dropping the goalkeeper . However, pundit Paul Scholes expressed concerns about the team's overall quality and Amorim's confidence in the squad .

United will need a strong performance in the second leg at Old Trafford to advance to the semi-finals.
