Ondo Police Commissioner directs autopsy on deceased Inspector.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has ordered a full autopsy to determine the cause of death of Inspector Yusuf Suleiman Blessing, who was serving at the Akotogbo Police Division in Irele Local Government Area. This decision follows allegations of foul play by the deceased's family and public concern over the circumstances surrounding his demise.

Preliminary investigations revealed that on January 27, 2025, Inspector Suleiman was reported missing from his station. Two days later, his body was discovered floating face down in a river by the Police Marine Unit. The corpse was identified as that of Inspector Suleiman, with his clothing intact and no visible signs of violence, except for noticeable swelling in the center of his head.

Initially, the family opposed an autopsy and requested the immediate release of the body for burial, which the police honored. However, upon receiving the corpse, the family alleged that it was burnt and had a cracked skull, contradicting earlier reports that he had drowned. These discrepancies have led to public outcry and suspicions of foul play.

In response to these concerns, CP Afolabi has mandated a comprehensive autopsy to ascertain the actual cause of death and address the allegations raised by the family and the public.
