The Nigeria Customs Service's Oyo/Osun Area Command, under the leadership of Comptroller Dr. Ben Oramalugo, has demonstrated a consistent increase in revenue generation over recent years. In 2023, the command generated over ₦71 billion, surpassing previous records.
In 2024, the command continued its upward trajectory, collecting ₦72.56 billion between January and November, marking a 13.17% increase compared to the ₦64.12 billion generated during the same period in 2023.
These achievements are attributed to enhanced enforcement of customs laws, improved trade facilitation measures, and strengthened compliance among excise stakeholders. The command's efforts have significantly contributed to national development and supported the federal government's economic agenda.
In addition to revenue collection, the Oyo/Osun Area Command has intensified its anti-smuggling operations. Between October 30 and December 19, 2024, the command intercepted prohibited items with a Duty Paid Value of ₦370.77 million, including foreign rice, banned pharmaceuticals, and used vehicles.
These proactive measures not only prevent illegitimate trading activities but also protect communities from the dangers posed by illicit goods.
