Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed confidence that nothing will impede his potential re-election bid in 2027. During a solidarity visit by representatives from the Kalabari Ethnic Nationality, Fubara emphasized his administration's focus on impactful governance, highlighting ongoing projects like the ₦200 billion Trans-Kalabari road.
However, political dynamics in Rivers State suggest potential challenges. In December 2024, Tony Okocha, a factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, claimed that Governor Fubara no longer holds membership in any political party, which could hinder his ability to secure a party nomination for the 2027 elections.
Additionally, some political leaders from the Ogoni and Oyigbo zones, who are allies of former Governor Nyesom Wike, are advocating for the governorship to rotate to their regions in 2027. They have expressed intentions to seek a replacement for Fubara in the next election cycle.
Despite these developments, supporters of Governor Fubara remain optimistic about his prospects. Opunabo Inkor Tariah, a former media aide to Wike, has stated that Fubara's extensive development projects across all 23 local government areas have garnered significant public support, making his potential second-term bid "unstoppable."
As the political landscape evolves, Governor Fubara's confidence in his re-election prospects will be tested by intra-party dynamics and regional political aspirations within Rivers State
