The incident occurred when a 14-seater bus, carrying prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), collided with a stationary truck along the Okposi axis in Ohaozara Local Government Area. The injured were promptly transported to the David Umahi University Teaching Hospital in Uburu, where they received immediate medical attention. The hospital's swift response, led by Chief Medical Director Professor Uzoma Agwu, was crucial in stabilizing the victims. The NYSC state coordinator, Olainde Foluke, visited the hospital to assess the condition of the hospitalized individuals and expressed gratitude to the medical team for their efforts. Although the prospective corps members had not yet registered at the NYSC camp, arrangements were made for their medical bills to be covered by Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) .

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that the bus collided with a stationary truck, highlighting concerns about road safety and the need for better visibility measures for parked vehicles. The FRSC emphasizes the importance of adhering to road safety regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.

In light of this incident, authorities are urging transport operators to ensure that vehicles are properly maintained and that drivers are adequately trained. There is also a call for increased enforcement of traffic laws and the implementation of safety measures to protect road users, especially during the NYSC mobilization periods.
