Independence Bridge Reopens as FG Plans Permanent Repairs in Three Weeks – Umahi

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has reopened Lagos' Independence Bridge after its recent closure for emergency repairs. The bridge had been closed earlier this week due to structural issues, leading to significant traffic congestion in the area. Umahi announced that permanent rehabilitation work is scheduled to commence within the next three weeks.

The closure had caused severe gridlock, prompting public outcry and highlighting the bridge's importance as a critical link between Victoria Island and other parts of Lagos. In response, Umahi apologized for the inconvenience and assured residents that measures are being taken to prevent similar situations in the future.

The minister emphasized that the upcoming permanent repairs aim to ensure the long-term stability and safety of the bridge. He also mentioned plans to redesign the bridge to address underlying structural issues, with work expected to be carried out in phases to minimize disruption to traffic.

Residents can expect the commencement of these permanent repair works in approximately three weeks, with efforts focused on enhancing the bridge's structural integrity and preventing future closures.
